Another change to our Bismarck staff has been the shifting of Katie Martinez from high school to elementary principal. She takes the place of Carmen Barton who retired this year. Martinez has been in administration for some time now. She is a 2002 graduate of Bismarck High School. She taught P.E., special education, and coached before jumping into administration. The Smoke Signal decided to ask Mrs. Martinez some questions regarding her change of title this year.
What challenges has this school year presented?
“Obviously, COVID-19 has drastically changed what we do on a day to day basis. The biggest challenge has probably been learning new technology and balancing instructing both in-person and online students. Fortunately, I work with some of the best, most adaptable teachers around!”
How is this title different from your previous title?
“The biggest change for me is working with elementary students instead of JH/HS students.”
What goals do you have for this year?
“Successfully adapting to the use of new technology. Creating a culture of positivity, character, and teamwork among staff and students.”
What does your new position or title affect your day to day life?
“My new position hasn’t really affected my daily life, but my oldest turning 16 and driving sure has!!”
