Bismarck Veterans Day Celebration 2019

Today, Bismarck R-5 School District celebrated Veterans Day with a veterans breakfast followed by a Veterans Day Ceremony.  The veterans breakfast was organized by Mrs. Kim Bell, Bismarck Family and Consumer Sciences teacher.  The veterans ceremony was organized by Mr. Abe Warren, Bismarck High School History teacher.  The Bismarck Fine Arts department helped to provide a tribute to our veterans by performing a few selections.

First, Ms. Stacey Burge, Bismarck Choir teacher, directed the Bismarck Concert Choir as they performed the National Anthem.  The Bismarck second grade students led the crowd by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  After this, Bismarck Band teacher Dennis Mayberry directed the Concert Band as they performed Salute to the Armed Forces.  Each veteran who attended stood during the playing their branch’s theme.

The Bismarck elementary performed another tribute to the veterans in attendance by singing This Land is Your Land.  The song was directed by Mrs. Stephanie Pratt and sung by kindergarten, first, and second grades.  After conclusion of this song, Sofia Moss and Mychael Steel read patriotic poems for the veterans.  Mr. Mayberry directed the concert band while they played God Bless the USA.

Bismarck Senior Alicia Aubuchon read her winning essay for the Voice of Democracy speech.  She did an excellent job relating her freedoms to how she was raised around veterans in her family.  The veterans day keynote speaker was State Representative from the 117th District, Mike Henderson.  Mr. Henderson was the former assistant superintendent of the North County School District.  He also was a history teacher before his days in school administration.

Bismarck Superintendent Jason King closed the ceremony with some positive messages to the veterans in attendance.  As the ceremony closed, Bismarck Concert Band members Caleb Boyd, Kacey Brewer, and Kathrine Howard performed Taps as the VFW 6947 Military Honors Team retrieved the colors.

Thank you to all veterans who served and sacrificed themselves for our freedom!!  You can see some photos of the event below.
