Horton Attends Boys State

Over the summer of 2019, Bismarck student Brett Horton attended Boys State.  Boys State is a summer leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion for high school juniors.  Brett was picked by the school to attend Boys State.  In most cases, individual expenses are paid by a sponsoring post, a local business or another community-based organization.  One reason Brett decided to attend Boys State is that he wanted to break out of his shell.  He thought the experience could change his life so he researched it a lot before committing to the program.

Boys State was held in the city of Carver.  The group of students had to make a working government in one week.  Horton was the fire chief.  Brett is a volunteer firefighter for the city of Bismarck in his free time so this was a natural fit for him.

Congratulations Brett on this magnificent accomplishment!!
