On November 11, 2016, Bismarck held its annual Veterans’ Day assembly.  The festivities were organized by Mr. Abe Warren, Bismarck High School Social Studies teacher.  The day started with breakfast for the veterans at 8:15 am.  The assembly started at 8:45 am with the local VFW 6947 Military Honors Team doing the Presentation of Colors.  Next, the second grade class led the crowd with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Mr. Warren then opened up the ceremony and showed an educational video about the history of Veterans’ Day.  The Bismarck High School Band and Choir collaborated on the “Salute to the Armed Forces” where all service men and women stood when their military song was played.  Mr. Skinner’s English Composition class had two representatives share their Voice of Democracy speeches with the crowd.  These two speakers were Senior Mackenzie Coleman and Junior Ashley Turner.  Between the two Voice of Democracy speeches, the 4th Grade Choir sang “God Bless the U.S.A.”  5th Graders Connor Coleman and Daven Miller shared their patriotic poems with the crowd.

The keynote speaker was Sergeant Garrett Eggers from the Missouri National Guard 1138th Sapper Company.  He was a 2006 graduate of Arcadia Valley High School who currently resides in Pilot Knob, MO.

The closing remarks were led by Bismarck Elementary Principal Carmen Barton.  After Mrs. Barton’s close, Atlanta Wells and Ashley Turner played Taps while the VFW retrieved the colors.
